Mike Ironside

Mike is a writer, photographer, and designer for 365ink magazine and Dubuque365.com. He is a graduate of Loras College with a major in studio art and a minor in art history.

He cultivated his interest in photography while living in Japan and traveling abroad and through the Midwest and Western United States. Now utilizing digital technology, Mike has shot in more than a dozen states, eight countries and for a variety of non-profit and commercial clients in the Tri-State area including the City of Dubuque, the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Dubuque Main Street, the Dubuque County Historical Society / National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, the Dubuque Museum of Art, and the Dubuque County Fine Arts Society.

A strong believer in community service, Mike has served on a variety of volunteer committees and groups including the Dubuque Cultural Alliance, the City Arts Task Force, the Downtown Planning Committee, the CVB Advisory Board, the Taste of Dubuque Committee, the Grand Excursion Committee, and the Dubuque Jaycees. He has served as President of the Dubuque Cultural Alliance and Chair of the Dubuque Festivals and Events Committee. Mike has been recognized for his community service, winning Dubuque Main Street’s Russ & Ruth Nash Cultural Corridor Award together with his wife Julie Steffen in 2003, and the Dubuque Jaycees Young Person of the Year in 2002.

Mike has served on the board of the Dubuque County Fine Arts Society since 2002, and currently serves as board president, as well as sitting on a number of affiliate committees. He also volunteers for the Dubuque Museum of Art. When he’s not shooting pics, writing articles, volunteering, or generally promoting the community, Mike plays bass in a couple local bands.
